many have been waiting for. and we say good morning on this friday morning. we'll start with the breaking details about the rampage in kansas by one count, the nation's 33rd mass shooting so far this year. >> heavily armed officers with guns drawn flooded the area around the lawn mower plant. one of the workers had already killed three and wounded more than a dozen people killed by police. >> the frightening incident playing out in hesston, kansas and abc's clayton sandell is there. >> reporter: police say 38-year-old cedric ford started shooting at random drivers shooting two before he headed to excel where he worked. >> to have something like this is frajic. >> reporter: he heads inside armed with a rifle and handgun and opens fire on his co-workers.

saying, run, run and pop, pop, pop, pop, pop is all i heard and everybody started scattering out of the building. i didn't realize what happened until i saw wounded people coming out. >> reporter: police and witnesses say he kept shooting until a single officer fires back. >> there was a particular law enforcement here in hesston that responded right away and even though he took fire he went inside of that place and saved multiple, multiple lives, a hero as far as i'm concerned. >> reporter: in the end four employees including the shooter would not survive. many more wounded. >> inside the building he shot a total of 15 people. >> reporter: around 150 employees were inside at the time, worried friends and family waited outside for news. >> i can't believe the guy that shot people up lived right across the street from us. >> reporter: not much is known yet about the victims who have not been identified. ford has an extensive criminal record in florida. police aren't saying why they

they've ruled out terrorism. excel is a family owned company that makes lawn mowing equipment since 1960. clayton sandell, abc news, wichita, kansas. and this morning police are saying something triggered ford's rampage but they haven't revealed a specific motive yet. >> and you saw a woman in clayton's story talking to a reporter after the story. her husband had been right next to a co-worker who was shot and the reporter pointed out her husband, an all too familiar scene playing out live on tv. >> it has become way too familiar and sad. of course, we're going to continue to follow that throughout the morning including on "good morning america." we want to get to our other breaking news. new debate fireworks. marco rubio and ted cruz tag teaming donald trump in houston blasting the front-runner on everything from immigration to his privileged background. >> it was the first debate

the south but spent yesterday in ohio and michigan and took part in a forum to discuss the city's water crisis and hopes americans will look at what happened in flint and say, quote, never again. he drew his biggest crowd in president obama's hometown of chicago. reena and kendis. >> all right, kenneth moton, does look like hillary clinton was performing the whip and nae nae there. kenneth moton in d.c. apple has filed a response to the order that it must assist the fbi in unlocking the iphone of one of the san bernardino shooters and claims the government is seeking what it calls dangerous power. it also says the constitution forbids what the government is asking it to do. fbi director james comey countered apple's claim if software is written to unlock the iphone, it would put iphone users everywhere at risk of hacking. comey says that was not a legitimate concern. well, new developments in the politically charged battle

houston fire crews have capped a leaking gas line that sparked a damaging two-alarm fire in an upscale neighborhood. city workers were repairing a broken water main when the backhoe hit it and ignited it.

right before the imaging were shown suing the man who shot the videos and the nashville hotel where she was staying for $75 million. a computer expert testified that 16 million people have viewed the videos online and it's still going on. >> i know of no way to get it off just in doing continued research, people are still posting the video online a year ago, six months ago, a month ago. >> her therapist testified that andrews couldn't stop thinking about the video because she had been publicly humiliated. andrews is expected to take the stand next week. well, seaworld is making a startling admission using employees to spy on peta. seaworld says it received what it calls credible threats and claims it was just trying to protect the safety of its co-workers and customers. park officials now say they'll end the practice.

milestone in cleveland. a 26-year-old has undergone the first uterus transplant in the u.s. she'll now have to wait a year to become pregnant to allow her body to heal completely. she will also have to take anti-rejection drugs. women in europe have gotten pregnant with a transplanted uterus but it's never been tried here in the u.s. a rule change in major league baseball. so-called rolling block slides are now banned. you may recall chase utley of the dodgers taking out mets infielder ruben tejada during last year's playoffs. while his attempt to break up a potential double play broke tejada's leg. from now on those types of slides are illegal. violations of the new rule can get both the runner and batter called out. check out these. the waves, they were surfing off the north shore of oahu. this was a big wave competition known as the eddie and only takes place in sustained waves of at least 40 feet.
